Choose the frame for its destination

A profile image, article thumbnail, and product photo may need different aspect ratios. Check the actual destination dimensions before cropping.

Keep enough room around faces, text, or products to tolerate interface crops on smaller screens. Do not assume every platform displays the full image.

Use the preview or precise coordinates

Drag across the preview to set the crop rectangle, or enter x, y, width, and height in source-image pixels.

The rectangle must stay inside the source bounds. If exact output size matters, choose width and height that match the destination's expected ratio.

Treat the crop as a new edit

Cropping in this tool affects only the downloaded copy. Reopen the original to make a different crop later.

A crop is not a substitute for text alternatives or a clear caption when the image communicates information.

Common questions

Does cropping reduce the original image?

No. The original file remains unchanged; the crop is encoded as a separate download.

Why does the preview selection move in pixels?

The displayed image is scaled to fit the page, while the coordinate fields refer to the decoded source pixel grid.
