How to use it

Choose the output format

WebP and JPEG are useful for photographs when smaller files matter. PNG keeps lossless encoding and transparency, but may not get smaller through this control.

Adjust quality gradually

Start near the middle of the range, process once, then inspect edges, text, gradients, and faces at the size people will see them.

Save a separate copy

The selected original file is not overwritten. The download has a new name and remains under your control.

About this tool

Why can the compressed file be larger?

Changing formats can add encoding overhead or preserve detail differently. A PNG may also stay the same size because this tool does not run a palette optimizer.

Does lower quality always look bad?

No single quality value fits every image. Fine textures, sharp text, and smooth gradients show artifacts differently, so compare the preview.
